What is RSS?
RSS is an abbreviation of either 'Really Simple Syndication' or ‘Rich Site Summary’ depending on who you talk to. RSS feeds are designed to be read by a special program on your PC, which allows you to subscribe to website ‘feeds’ that have frequently changing content.
What is an RSS feed?
An RSS feed is a list of topics which is made available from a web site, using RSS. To read the feed, the user installs a newsreader and enters the URL for the news feed. RSS news feeds are a replacement for email newsletters. Eventually, everyone will be reading their news via a feed reader.
This way you have full control on what you will receive, without the need for visiting multiple web-sites. The RSS way of reading news also helps to protect you from spam, because you can keep your email address private.
How do I start using RSS feeds?
You will need a piece of software called a feed reader that checks RSS feeds from your selected websites and lets you read any new articles that have been added to them.
Browser-based feed readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer, in the same way that you either download your e-mail using Outlook, or keep it on a web-based service like Hotmail.
Once you have chosen a feed reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want it to receive. For example, if you would like the latest Jobsgopublic news articles, simply visit the News section and you will notice an orange button on the right hand side of the page.
Jobsgopublic also allow you to choose specific newsfeeds you would like to subscribe to, including the latest jobs by sector or by location.
