Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Council are leading the way when it comes to working in partnership. We have merged most of our services, including our Planning & Coastal Management Service to ensure that we are delivering them in a high quality and cost effective way.

An opportunity has just arisen for you to join us in delivering on an exciting and challenging agenda in the Planning Policy and Delivery Team. Situated on the beautiful east coast of Suffolk with significant economic growth potential due to off-shore wind farms and on-shore energy projects (including Sizewell new nuclear build), it is a geographically diverse area, offering opportunities to work on a wide variety of urban, rural and coastal issues whilst benefiting from an attractive living and working environment. Lowestoft and Felixstowe, the main towns are the subject of much regeneration activity, and local communities are actively engaged in Neighbourhood Planning. Waveney has a full suite of adopted Local Plan documents and Suffolk Coastal has adopted its Core Strategy and is currently working on site allocations and area specific policies.

Reporting to the Principal Planner (Policy & Delivery), you will play a leading role in the preparation and implementation of the Local Plan, associated Documents and other Planning Policy for Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils. You will support communities in preparing, delivering and monitoring Neighbourhood Plans/Community Led Plans.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual who can rise to the plan making challenges. Ideally a planner with experience in local plan preparation, you will possess a recognised qualification to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline and be working towards or already achieved, full RTPI Membership. The post will be based at the Suffolk Coastal offices in Woodbridge.
