Suffolk Coastal District Council and Waveney District Council are looking to appoint 5 individuals to a joint pool of Independent Remuneration Panel Members, which will periodically recommend to each Council the levels of allowances that should be paid to Elected Councillors.
Each Independent Remuneration Panel will be comprised of 3 members, taken from the joint pool of five individuals, all unconnected to the Councils, and their task would involve making recommendations, amongst other things on:
- The amount of Basic Allowance which should be paid to each Councillor.
- The roles and responsibilities for which Special Responsibility Allowances should be paid.
- Travelling / Subsistence Allowances
No formal qualifications are required to be a member of the Joint Panel but candidates must be aged 18 or over and either live or work in the Suffolk Coastal or Waveney District Council areas. Knowledge of local government would be useful, but is not essential.
Membership of the Panel is likely to involve 1 – 2 days work per year (including preparation time) but flexibility is needed to attend more meetings if necessary.
Existing or former County, District or London Borough Councillors are not eligible to apply. Nor are employees who currently work for either Suffolk Coastal or Waveney District Councils or for any of their main contractors. You should not be affiliated to any political party.
Appointments to the Panel will be made for a term of 4 years from November 2014 to October 2018.
