The Director – Culture, Tourism and Sport is part of the Culture, Tourism and Sport Team within the People and Skills Directorate. The Directorate has a wide remit in terms of policy responsibility and delivery. It is responsible as the RDA’s national policy lead on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) agenda* (focusing specifically on 2012, tourism and Digital Britain), and for the delivery of the RDA’s statutory responsibilities for tourism (discharged through South West Tourism).
This post will ensure a continued focus to our role in driving up skills, aspiration and participation in the region, across the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) agenda, with the aim to find the most effective way to catalyse change through strategic leadership; influencing others to deliver agreed goals; and investing directly to stimulate the economy. For example the Agency chairs the Regional Skills Partnership, supports a number of sector-specific skills projects (marine, tourism, creative industries, aerospace and engineering) and has a range of initiatives to promote economic inclusion and equality.
The DCMS agenda includes Government policy on the arts, sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums and galleries, broadcasting, creative industries including film and the music industry, press freedom and regulation, licensing, gambling and the historic environment.
