Main Purpose of Job
Advocate, create opportunities and facilitate partnerships:
• To raise awareness of health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability and health inequalities among partners across the council.
• To ensure that these issues become embedded within the policies and plans of partner departments.
Provide expert advice and support elected members and officers to better appreciate the links between health and the environment, demonstrating how this can also contribute to Medway Council’s agenda of economic regeneration.
Maintain active external relationships with others involved in similar work across the country so that Medway’s work can inform, and be informed by, emerging best practice.
Represent the service at all senior level meetings locally, nationally and regionally, including delivering formal presentations.
Applicants must hold/have the following:
• Post graduate diploma in a discipline relevant to at least one area of the wider determinants of health with demonstrable experience of work that has influenced public health at an operational and strategic level.
• Experience working at a senior level and with formal training in one or more of the following areas: Public health; Planning; Sustainability, Health Impact Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment, Mental Wellbeing Impact Assessment; Housing Strategy; Community Development; Social and economic regeneration and job creation; Environmental health; Food policy
