Waltham Forest is an ambitious, four-star borough in North East London. We have made significant improvements in the delivery of our Benefits Service in recent years and are still improving day by day. We are looking for Benefits Officers who are equally committed to delivering excellent services to customers, improving access; and reducing social exclusion by maximising the income levels of residents in the borough.

You will have:

· Detailed working knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit legislation gained from being an experienced Benefits Officer

· Good decision making skills and the ability to respond effectively to written correspondence and requests for revisions

· Experience of dealing with and resolving complicated benefit claims

· An understanding of the needs of customers and the commitment to deliver a service, which meets those needs

· Good analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, plus a methodical approach to problem solving

· The ability to meet challenging deadlines and experience of using a variety of IT systems.

To be appointed at the higher end of the scale, candidates will be expected to demonstrate that they fulfil both the standard requirements of the role and the additional requirements listed in the Personnel Specification.
All candidates should be self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative.

Shortlisting will take place week commencing 8.12.08
First round of testing will take place week commencing 15.12.08 First round of Interviews will be held week commencing 05.01.09
Further testing and interview will be held in January 2009 and February 2009 to fill any remaining vacancies.
This is a rolling recruitment programme, which will continue until 12.2.09. Applications received after 12.2.09 will not be considered.
