St. Mary’s, St. Saviours and Stoneydown Primary Schools are running a Saturday school this year from 29th September 2012 until July 2013, after receiving funding from an organisation called SHINE (Support and Help IN Education).

SHINE will be open for 60 students, and will provide exciting learning activities aimed at boosting attainment. Students will have the opportunity to focus not only on key skills of literacy and numeracy, but also ICT, sports and creative arts. The project will open for children during term-times, between 9.00 am and 2:00 pm. The role requires staff to work approximately 30 Saturdays over the course of the academic year.

We currently have one teaching vacancy for September. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher (holding qualified teacher status). All teachers will have the key responsibility of producing the highest standards of student achievement. All teachers will be responsible for ensuring that all students develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities within a secure, challenging and motivating environment. The rate of pay will be £150 per day.

Teachers will be required to provide an innovative curriculum and to ensure that the literacy, numeracy, science and ICT lessons offered on Saturdays are not ‘more of the same’ but build on and are different from the provision offered in school. All staff involved in the project will participate in a programme of professional development. In conjunction with the Project Manager of SHINE on Saturday, staff will take students out for planned educational and enrichment activities and supervise students on arrival, at lunchtimes and at the end of each Saturday.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed (from the second week in September). Please ring us for an appointment to view the school and meet our SHINE Project Manager. The application form, job description and person spec. are available as attachments. Alternatively, please contact Linda Edwards via email at linda.edwards@st-marys-coe.waltham.sch.uk If you require assistance, please call 0208 521 1066 ext 202
