Location: Salford Museum and Art Gallery Salford has an important and often momentous history. None more so than through the story of the Bridgewater Canal, the world’s first commercial canal.
The Bridgewater Canal, Worsley Delph and Barton Swing Aqueduct are heritage firsts with international significance and were at the heart of the industrial revolution. This incredibly important heritage feature is now the focus of a £3.5 million bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and we have recently had the excellent news that we are through to stage two of the bidding process.
We are looking to appoint a Learning and Activity Co-ordinator for the Bridgewater Canal project until August 2013. The successful candidate will develop and deliver a programme of learning and activity pilot projects, the evaluation of which will ultimately feed into the creation of a learning and activity plan for the Bridgewater Canal. This will be an integral part of our stage two bid. The appointee will be experienced in planning, delivering and evaluating learning, arts and heritage based activities involving a wide variety of audiences. They will have experience of working with educational stakeholders and freelance practitioners, and managing a number of tasks at once. They should be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where necessary, and are expected to become familiar with the project and area very quickly. They will be organised and exhibit exemplary time management skills, and will work closely with the project steering group, heritage management team and local stakeholders. The post will be split between the Heritage Services (2 days) and the Regeneration Team (1day).
