About us

The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate. Join our Environmental Crime team and you’ll play an important role in ensuring that future generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

The role

As a Crime Reduction Officer, you’ll take a comprehensive and proactive approach to illegal waste sites, leading crime prevention and disruption initiatives out in the field. Working with several internal functions, as well as external partner agencies, you’ll close existing sites down quickly and prevent new sites starting up. You’ll develop new crime reduction tools and trial innovative ways of tackling the illegal waste site problem more effectively. Leaving a lasting legacy, you’ll shape the way we work and act.

About you

You’ll have a proven track record in developing crime prevention strategies and extensive experience in intelligence-led enforcement. Collating crime information, researching stories and supporting campaign plans will all be second nature to you. We’d also like you to have experience of developing new initiatives into the workplace. Knowledge of information handling and security, along with an awareness of environmental legislation, would be a bonus. Enthusiastic and hands-on, you’re a great communicator and enjoy working in a team to produce results.

In return, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits and the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment.

Closing date: 17 August 2012.
