Main Purpose of Job

A professionally qualified librarian is required to contribute to the development of a high quality socially inclusive library and information service within department policy and guidelines, and to lead and participate in area and authority wide project teams.

To identify and provide for the needs of local communities by developing new services by consulting and working with the local community and groups including people with special needs and Medway Council colleagues, to ensure that services are developed and operated in a customer focused way and in line with the overall objectives of the Council.

To organise appropriate activities, events and initiatives to enhance the quality of life in the community.

To participate in the selection, deployment and promotion of stock, by managing collections as required, to the level specified in the Stock Management Policy and the Good Management Manual.

To deliver customer enquiry services and provide information and assistance by all available means. Also to contribute effectively to the exchange of information and ideas between staff and ensuring all Good Management policies, procedures and guidelines are implemented and adhered to.

To maintain a current awareness of ICT and library system developments in order to apply these techniques in the management of the service and to support users in the use of public terminals.

To ensure the efficient and effective use of resources and identify opportunities for value added services and income generation.

To undertake the responsibilities of Duty Manager as required and undertake all reasonable precautions to ensure the security of all Council assests including premises and monies
