Staines Library is one of Surrey’s top ten libraries, with approximately 13,500 visitors and 10,000 items issued each month. It is a self-service library.

Your role will be to help manage all aspects of the library service, and to deputise for the Library Manager whenever they’re away.

This will involve overseeing admin procedures, maintaining financial records, as well as supervising staff and taking care of their training and development. You will also offer information services and basic ICT support to library users. When acting as Library Manager, you will have full responsibility for frontline staff and services, will be expected to deal immediately with any customer complaints and will be responsible for building security.

Experienced in providing a library service, or as a supervisor in a customer care environment, you’ll have good communication and customer service skills, and will be used to coping with several different tasks at once. Good computer skills in packages such as MS Office are also important, with a positive attitude towards training and personal development. You will also be involved in delivering children’s activities including Rhymetimes and Storytimes.

With Staines Library open 55 hrs per week, staff may be asked to change work patterns to cover for sickness etc, so you will also need a flexible approach. Stamina is important, as you’ll be standing for long periods and there will also be lifting and bending involved. You should be educated to A-level standard or equivalent.
