Team: North London Waste Authority
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Assistant Contracts Manager to permanently join the North London Waste Authority Team.
As the Assistant Contracts Manager you will be responsible for managing the day to day waste treatment operational issues, liaising with boroughs and contractors. The post holder will supervise the Monitoring and Administration Officers and ensure the Authority’s obligations to constituent boroughs are met and that legislative requirements are fulfilled. Applicant may come from a LA waste collection or disposal background. The work is varied and will involve dealing with LA staff at different levels and Members.
The successful candidate will ideally have supervisory experience in a local authority or other organisation dealing with waste collection or disposal. They will be able to work early mornings, late evenings/occasional weekends as required.
With new long term waste services being developed in north London, there are great prospects for the right person.
About the North London Waste Authority (NLWA)
The NLWA is responsible for managing the disposal of almost 800,000 tonnes of waste every year, across seven north London Boroughs.
Reducing waste, improving recycling and making the best use of rubbish we can’t reuse by turning it into fuel is our challenge for the future. We have embarked on a major £4billion procurement project for the next generation of waste treatment facilities and services in North London through a 25-35 year contract.
At the same time we are working towards our aim of achieving a 50% recycling rate by 2020, while also significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join us and be part of a strategic team developing a new vision for the authority.

Qualifications/Knowledge: Substantial relevant work experience and/or professional qualification to demonstrate the required level of competence. The ability to devise and implement relevant projects / service improvements at operational and strategic levels to strict deadlines. The ability to contribute to a team and assist with managing and developing contracted services. Experience of directly supervising large and complex service contracts and checking contractors’ claims for payment. Experience of using outlook, word and of using, developing and creating spreadsheets on Excel. Strong communication skills at all levels both verbally and in writing. Experience of managing staff in a local authority or other large organisation and achieving set goals/targets.
Desirable: Experience of project management with responsibility for resource planning, budgetary management and successful outcomes.
