The Community and Youth Work Programme at the University of Derby is professionally validated by the National Youth Agency. The Programme is part of the Integrated Professional Studies Subject Area. The aim of the Programme is to prepare students for developmental work with young people and their communities and maintain the highest levels of professional standards.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of academic staff and will be responsible for the full range of academic duties including learning, teaching, assessment, tutorial work, pastoral support, supporting students on placement, administrative duties and contributing to the development of the Programme and the Subject Area. Working to and promoting the core values of the University is expected, furthermore, evidence of a commitment to Continuous Professional Development and to the involvement of service users and carers in all aspects of practice is essential.

The successful candidate will hold a Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC)-recognised award in Youth Work, a good honours degree and ideally will have a relevant higher degree. The post is currently being advertised on a 0.5 basis. Dependant on growth and staff changes the opportunity may arise in the future to increase this. There may also be opportunities to take on some Programme leadership duties.

The University and Faculty functions on a variety of sites and the person appointed may be required to work on different sites, teach evenings or weekends, or contribute to and attend inter-professional and international collaborations.
