Mental Health Social Worker – Initial Assessment Team

Working Pattern Full Time, Permanent position Hours 36
Salary £25,128 to £31,353 plus £2,000 market supplement Reference SCL/ASC/0423

For someone suffering from mental health problems, the first assessment they receive can be crucial. As part of our Mental Health Initial Assessment Team you’ll be the gateway to secondary services, deciding which agencies each case should be referred to.

With your insistence on the highest standards, you’ll establish the most appropriate course of action for every person you’re assigned. You’ll be working as part of a duty rota, assessing urgency and level of need. That means visiting people in their homes or GPs’ surgeries; advising carers and families; and dealing with other services, eg Primary Health Care and the Police. Evidently, it’s important that you can express yourself clearly.

We’re also looking for a range of other qualities: IT skills, a qualification (CQSW, CSS, DSW or equivalent) and a talent for organisation. This is especially important, as you’ll be given a short-term caseload of clients to manage. Above all, you must be confident dealing with people with mental health problems. You’ll need to know about building relationships, recognising risk and all relevant legislation and policies. A registered social care worker, you’ll be the key to our services.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake a satisfactory disclosure. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the Council.

Any disabled applicant meeting the essential criteria set out in the person profile for a job will be guaranteed an interview.

Apply via the ‘Apply Online’ link below or for an application pack call the recruitment line on 0870 700 3208 (8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays) or e-mail CV’s will only be accepted in addition to a completed application form. Calls may be recorded for monitoring and training purposes.

We reserve the right to close this post early.
