Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) is responsible for the development of high quality integrated transport services across Greater Manchester, and we are now recruiting for a Commodity Manager.
The primary role of the organisation is to safely facilitate the 265 million annual passenger journeys made across Greater Manchester – the largest city regional economy outside London – in what is a complex and changing stakeholder environment.
GMPTE plans include the recently announced Greater Manchester Transport Fund, which will involve committed spend of £1.5 billion – including bus and park-and-ride and additional Metrolink schemes – as well as the current Metrolink works totalling over £700 million. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in public transport investment in the North West.
This challenging role represents an opportunity to enhance the efficiency of GMPTE, enabling us to provide a more cost-effective passenger transport service to Greater Manchester. You’ll be directly involved with delivering procurement savings whilst maximising supplier performance. You’ll identify opportunities throughout the organisation to improve performance whilst reducing cost and risk to GMPTE.
You’ll also continually search for and identify potential opportunities to realise better value for money from supplier contracts and negotiate at the highest levels with third party suppliers, internal and external stakeholders and all those with a relationship with us.
To shine in this role you’ll already have experience of developing, critiquing and implementing commodity strategies with the confidence and skills in delivering real savings. Relationship building is key to this role and you’ll be able to demonstrate a history of successfully delivering improvements and efficiencies through suppliers. A strong working knowledge of procurement principles, concepts and techniques is also a must.
We’re looking for talented individuals, someone already educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a subject that contains analytical content but with the drive and willingness to enhance their qualifications and training for development within the post. MCIPS qualification or working towards it would be ideal but is not necessary.
BENEFITS
In return, as well as a competitive salary, GMPTE offers you a range of fantastic benefits, such as:
• Professional development

• Free rail or Metrolink travel to and from work
• 27 days holiday per annum
• Access to the local government final salary pension scheme
