GMPTE – Key facts

We’re all about public transport – improving what’s already there and planning for the future. Some of our key roles include providing the infrastructure and information that people need to use buses, trains and trams. We’re beginning a £600 million expansion over the next three years that includes three new routes and a new look for the network.

GMPTE played a key role in the £5 million modernisation scheme at Salford Central rail station. And we’ve secured funding to provide new transport interchanges at Rochdale and Wythenshawe and to revitalise Bolton railway station.

Over 224 million journeys were made by bus in Greater Manchester last year, and we’re providing top quality transport interchanges – including those at Shudehill, Hyde and Middleton – and ‘supershelters’ like those in Stockport town centre and Eccles.

About Manchester

Manchester has the biggest economy in the UK outside London and is now widely regarded as the country’s second city.

The city has undergone a renaissance in recent years thanks to massive regeneration initiatives and its profile and reputation for delivering major international events has been enhanced by the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and European football cup finals.

Salford’s MediaCityUK will allow Greater Manchester to rival the world’s other new media cities with new media and creative industries offering employment opportunities to 15,500 people. It’s the future home of many of the BBC operations and some of Greater Manchester’s most original buildings, including The Lowry arts centre and the Imperial War Museum North.

Add this to Manchester’s legendary leisure facilities – including some of the best shopping and sporting experiences in the country – and there’s never been a better time to join us.
