This is a unique opportunity for a creative and inspirational leader to fulfil this new role of Executive Headteacher.

New Horizons is an exciting and innovative organisation which serves the east of the county of East Sussex. From September 2009 we are delighted to be engaged in the launch of the Virtual College which will enhance our Pupil Referral Unit offer through further commissioning of alternative provision.

Following the appointment of our current Headteacher to a senior National Strategies post, we are seeking to appoint a self motivated and dedicated Executive Headteacher to lead New Horizons BESD School and the newly created Virtual College for the east of the county. The school also incorporates an ASD unit for Key Stages Three and Four.

With and encouraging Ofsted report in November 2007 and subsequent positive Ofsted monitoring inspection in January 2009, the governors and management committee now wish to build on our progress in partnership with the local authority.

The successful candidate will have:

• a strong commitment to children whose behaviour is damaging their educational opportunities;

• substantial strategic experience in a school catering for pupils with behavioural difficulties;

• a clear focus on how New Horizons can further develop and commission individual learning in partnership with colleagues, schools and other providers;

• the ability to work with an established senior team to lead a large forward – looking staff group;

• the ability to develop further our ethos of raising pupils’ aspirations and attainment;

• the ability to maintain excellent relationships with parents, carers, governors, a wide range of other professionals and the local community; and

• creative ideas regarding the development of sustainable extended school services by working in local partnership with schools and other agencies.
