We are looking to appoint one Autistic Spectrum Disorder Outreach Support Worker to join our Outreach Service from September 2009. The successful applicant will join our highly regarded team and deliver a new initiative to support pupils with autistic spectrum disorder in mainstream schools. Ability to travel around the county and access to your own transport are essential for this post.

The South Downs Community Special School is a school for children with a wide range of educational special needs. We educate children between the ages of 3 and 11 years old on two sites. The West Site is in Beechy Avenue (the Old Town area) and accommodates our younger pupils and the East Site is in Shinewater Lane (the Langney area) and accommodates our older pupils.

The outreach service works with over 200 children in Eastbourne and Hailsham Primary schools supporting them with their speech and language needs. Visits to the school are most welcome.

The South Downs Community Special School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced CRB disclosure for this Authority.

We are not able to obtain Work Permits for this post as it has not been classified by the Home Office as shortage skilled occupation. This is in line with Home Office Guidance. Most posts will not attract a work permit as they will not be considered difficult to recruit to posts.
