The appointment is linked to the needs of an individual pupil with a Statement of Special Educational Need.  As this post is linked to a named pupil the post will cease once the pupil has left the school. We are looking to appoint a skilled teaching assistant to provide high quality support for a Year 9, Gifted and Talented pupil with complex learning needs, linked to an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.  The pupil’s gifted and talented profile is linked to skills particularly in mathematics and science and it will be anticipated that the candidate would be secure in supporting and extending the pupil in these areas. The successful candidate would be expected to act as a key worker, liaise with subject teachers, parents and the Inclusion Team in order to support the pupil’s full participation within the School setting. The candidate would be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge to underpin an ethos of discrete support that is sensitive to the particular communication, social and interactive needs of pupils with Asperger’s Syndrome/high functioning Autism. They also should have excellent IT skills and must be creative, self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative. The post would appeal to a candidate who may be considering applying for further training in the future. e.g. teachers, clinical/educational psychologists.  Alternatively the candidate may have a special interest in Autistic Spectrum Disorder based upon prior experience of working and/or living with Asperger’s Syndrome. Moorside High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
