Temporary Student Fair Trading Officer
Grade 3 – £12,787 per annum
Closing Date: 12 noon Thursday 12th July 2012
Ref: 1903 Do you have a good knowledge of Consumer Protection legislation?
Can you organise yourself?
Are you a good listener and an assertive communicator?
Are you looking for paid work experience?
If the answer is yes you may wish to work in our Commercial Practice Section.
An opportunity has arisen to take up some paid work experience in Bury’s Trading Standards Service in the centre of Bury.  The post is temporary until the end of March 2013.
A good knowledge of consumer protection legislation is essential and you will receive training to be able to provide 1st and 2nd tier advice to consumers and businesses.  Experience of law enforcement is desirable. There may also be an opportunity to assist experienced Enforcement Officers undertaking enforcement duties.
You will need good information technology skills, and must have excellent communication skills.
Hours of work are 37 per week and an extended flexi-time scheme is in operation.  In order to support budget reductions in Local Government, the Council looked at many ways to reduce spending that minimised the need to reduce employee numbers or impact on services.  There are two measures which have been put in place which are applicable to all staff up to and including the Chief Executive: • Incremental progression within grades has been frozen until April 2014 and
• all employees are required to take an additional 3 days (unpaid) annual leave.  This can be taken at any time during the leave year; the cost of these additional days is spread over 12 months or pro rata to your start date.
