We are seeking an experienced and well-organised Publications Officer to join the Web and Publications team at the University of Derby to provide editorial support for publications and web projects.

You will report to the Web and Publications Manager and support the team by leading on publications projects which require copywriting, editing, proofreading and coordinating of content from various contributors and departments across the organisation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Write and edit content and support the production of core University publications
  • Produce production schedules for publications and briefs for external suppliers, ensuring that publications are delivered to schedule, within budget and on brand
  • Coordinate corporate University prospectus publications projects which require collating and sub-editing the work of multiple contributors to defined schedules ensuring that content is accurate, engaging and up-to-date at all times
  • Maintain the absolute accuracy and excellence of all core University publications, particularly prospectuses, using expert skills in all aspects of English usage including excellent spelling, punctuation and use of grammatically correct English
  • Ensure that prospectus content, in particular course content, is accurate and up-to-date at all times for University publications, web pages and associated pages
  • Support the internal design team and external print suppliers with design and branding for corporate publications by sourcing images and providing guidance on content and layouts
  • Proofread core publications and corporate marketing collateral
  • Develop the University’s house style, tone of voice and copywriting guidelines and act upon these guidelines to provide guidance and training on implementation to schools and departments to improve publications content
  • Work closely with colleagues across the University on the development of integrated communications campaigns
  • Update the image library, and advise colleagues across the University on the use of brand images
  • Maintain a bank of key elements relating to the project management of publications such as briefing templates, disclaimers and model-release agreements and schedules
  • Provide advice to internal stakeholders on the procurement of print from external suppliers, and on the correct interpretation and implementation of editorial and brand guidelines
  • Act as brand guardian ensuring all publications conform with the University’s brand identity
  • Support with social media communications and developments
  • Support with prospectus queries and orders
  • Provide administrative support for projects as required
  • Any other duties as reasonably required by the Web and Publications Manager
