An opportunity to help develop a new project in the Borough and have a real impact on the lives of some of its most vulnerable families.
Think Family seeks to focus on the strengths and difficulties of the whole family rather than those of the parent or child in isolation. It involves developing the coordination and integration of all services involved in working with the family.
Family Intervention Projects (FIPs) provide intensive support to vulnerable families. Through assertive working methods combined with the possibility of incentives and sanctions, projects help families to address their behaviour and the problems that underpin it. Accredited parenting programmes may be delivered and services (such as health) are brought in and coordinated around the family.
The FIP Key worker will manage a small caseload of high-need families who are involved in, or at risk of being involved in, crime or antisocial behaviour. This will include undertaking structured and persistent one-to-one family support work as key worker to meet family needs. They will promote and co-ordinate day-to-day inputs of other agencies. They will assist in the creation of an assertive and persistent structured supportive interventions environment enabling families to explore their difficulties and strengths. They will offer a support and challenge approach with families to bring about positive change in behaviour.
The FIP worker will need the ability to carry out complex family assessments. They will need to be able to work creatively, positively, dynamically and persistently to engage children, young people and families. They will need to be able to handle complex and challenging situations individually and as part of a team. The nature of the job will require flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend work.
Fixed-term appointment initially until March 2010 with an expectation (funding permitting) of extension to March 2011.
